Welcome to Broad Plain RFC - Bedminster's Own Rugby Club
Broad Plain RFC is a friendly family rugby club boasting fantastic new facilities. The Club is based at St John's Lane, Bedminster (on the old DRG sports grounds, near The Engineer's Arms pub), and is well placed to serve Bedminster, Ashton, Southville, and the wider south Bristol area. This is an ambitious Club with huge potential, and a desire to become a centre for sporting excellence. Whether you are a seasoned player, someone keen to take up rugby for the first time, or the parent of kids who need to blow off steam, this is the place for you!
The First XV play attractive running rugby, and start the 2013/14 season in Gloucester Division 2. New players are always welcome. Just turn up on a training night, Tuesday and Thursday from 6.45 pm. Or if you'd like to speak to a coach, click on First XV at the bottom of the home page for contact details
Broad Plain recognises the value of developing junior rugby squads, both to allow kids of all ages to experience the game, and to provide a constant feed of players into the senior teams. The Club has worked hard to create a thriving youth section which we believe is the fastest growing youth section in south Bristol. For season 2013/14 we now have 9 squads to cater for kids from age 4 to 16 - click on the squads at the bottom of the home page for details of each squad, training times and contacts. The Under-6 'nursery' squad, which takes children from age 4 - 6, is especially popular, as there are few opportunities for outdoor sporting activity for kids of this age.
Encouraging grass-roots rugby means engaging with the community. The Club works closely with local schools to promote tag rugby, and hosts a number of inter-school tag rugby tournaments throughout the season, including the local 'Tag-to-Twickenham' qualifying tournaments. In 2012 we picked up national, regional and local awards for community work - read more here . We have kids from all the local schools playing here, as well as some from further afield, so if you are a parent there's a good chance your kid will know someone here already.
Then there's the social side - club members enjoy plenty of social activities including fun days, cider festivals, Christmas and Easter parties, and a fantastic November 5th Firework Night. The youth squads are encouraged to try out other sports and other social activities such as bike rides during the summer months.
So why not come and join the action! Senior teams play on Saturdays - see the fixture list on the right of the home page. Come along for a couple of beers and watch some quality rugby for free! Senior training is at 6.45 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays if you'd like to try out. From September to April the junior squads will be training or playing matches from 11.00-12.00 on Sundays, with midweek training on Wednesday evenings all year round (times vary with age but start at either 6.30 or 7.00 pm). You're welcome to come along and let your kids have a go - alternatively, give one of our coaches a ring (details on the squad pages).
